POSITION TITLE: Project Engineer/Manager
REPORTS TO: Operating Company Director of Service

This position description identifies the major responsibilities of this job. It does not include all aspects of the position such as the potential additional duties assigned by supervisors and the requirement for flexibility in helping others for the company's overall benefit.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Project Engineer/Manager is responsible to develop and maintain systems design concepts based on customer requirements as well as direct the development of detailed CAD drawings to support the sales process and help obtain customer approval to begin a project.  The Project Engineer/Manager will have a working knowledge of a conveyor control system including Human Machine Interface, original equipment and programmable logic controls.  The Project Engineer/Manager is responsible to identify vendors, based on quality of product and costs.  This person must provide extensive guidance during the detailed design process and recommend and develop key strategic relationships with suppliers and integrators of material handling systems, equipment and controls software.

The Project Engineer/Manager is a member of the Service team who with their knowledge of sortation, order picking, controls and installation, interfaces with customers and vendors to design conveying systems by utilizing a combination of FMH Conveyors manufactured products as well as sourced products from its Partners. In addition, this person is expected to recommend, design and develops processes in all areas of Service management, including but not limited to: sortation systems, order picking systems and controls as well as installations and integrations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •          Develop and maintain systems design concepts based on customer requirements, direct the development of detailed CAD drawings to support the sales
             process and help obtain customer approval to begin a project
  •          Working knowledge of a conveyor control system including Human Machine Interface, original equipment and programmable logic controls
  •          Identify vendors, based on quality of product and costs and provides extensive guidance during the detailed design process
  •          Recommend and develop key strategic relationships with suppliers and integrators of material handling systems, equipment and controls software
  •          Make periodic site visits to review project progress and report to management as necessary
  •          Participation in system commissioning and project acceptance
  •          Strong communication and negotiation skills
  •          Work within a teamwork oriented and collaborative environment
  •          Ensure quality standards maintained across all areas of responsibility
  •          Demonstrate high attention to detail, solid organization, project management and planning skills
  •          Understanding of work methods and material handling equipment
  •          Define initiatives to improve quality and/or productivity such as new engineering methodologies within the team
  •          Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study
EXPERIENCE: 5 years related work experience in automation, conveyor systems or industrial engineering.  Five years of direct experience in warehouse layout, design, industrial automation and controls, including conveyor systems and material handling equipment.
Must be proficient with a variety of computer systems (ERP systems, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite and project management software)
Must be able to make decisions and solve complex problems.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills and effective written and verbal communication skills. 
Excellent time management skills.
Design experience with a systems integrator or conveyor manufacturer preferred.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Excellent phone skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to travel up to 50% both nationally and internationally

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to stand, walk, bend, twist and reach with arms and hands. Good visual acuity to see computer screens and read fine print on a variety of reports
