POSITION SUMMARY:

The Buyer position supports Purchasing, Production, Engineering and Customer Service quote requests.  This position will require a person with excellent documentation, organization and communication skills with the ability to learn quickly and improve existing operations, systems and methods.  A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.

The Buyer is a member of the Materials team and collaborates with the other functional teams (Sales Operations, Engineering, Finance, HR & Manufacturing Operations) on executing company strategies, meeting budgets and the work unit planned processes.  This person must demonstrate hands-on leadership in unison with the Materials Manager on implementing strong cultural beliefs and values throughout the organization.

 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in purchase order management to fill production/parts orders by monitoring and expediting PO's
  • Notifies management if requested deliveries cannot be met and communicates new delivery dates
  • Confirms receipt of purchase order to the supplier 
  • Manages confirmations to ensure pricing and delivery dates are accurate and contact suppliers on past due PO's and reschedule receipts accordingly
  • Handles all quote requests from Customer Service for customer parts orders 
  • Manages customer backlog report to ensure timely delivery from suppliers
  • Expedites production parts/customer orders as needed
  • Places MRO and Expense PO's from purchase requisitions
  • Enters Expense, VMI and Consignment PO's as needed
  • Maintains on time purchase orders from suppliers
  • Purchase items utilizing technical documents including Bills of Material and Engineering Drawings
  • Research and develop new suppliers for cost reduction opportunities
  • Collaborate with other FMH locations to ensure items purchased do not vary from product standards and to identify cost reduction opportunities. 
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are reviewed often and notifies the Materials Manager when such policies or procedures may need to be revised to increase work efficiency in the department        
  • Observes safety and security procedures; Uses equipment and materials properly; Reports potentially unsafe conditions

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 


EDUCATION:  Bachelors degree in Business Administration
EXPERIENCE: 4 years of previous purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
APICs certification preferred
Understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
Displays original thinking and creativity; meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work/processes
Learns quickly when facing new problems; open to change; strives for continuous improvement of self and processes.
Excellent communication (oral and written)
Knowledge of production and inventory control functions
Experience with lean concepts and tools
Knowledge of purchasing and manufacturing systems
Strong analytical, administrative, and organizational skills
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Stand, walk, or be mobile for up to an eight-hour shift; ascend and push, and pull up to 50 lbs; bend, twist and reach to check freight, stack boxes, and label.
 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
         Office & factory shop floor
